The Reg Allett Story
How one groundsman's observation changed lawn care.
In 1919, seven-year-old Reg Allett became his family's breadwinner after his father's passing. Working his way up from errand boy to head of the lawnmower department at a local ironmongers by age 16, Reg developed deep expertise in grass-cutting machinery.
One moment stayed with him: a groundsman broke his arm trying to start a petrol mower. Reg thought, 'Why not an electric start?' That simple question—'why not make this better?'—would define his career.
"Why not an electric start?"
A simple question that defined a career.
In 1965, Reg designed and built his first cylinder mower in a small workshop in Stamford, UK. The Allett MK1 was revolutionary: lightweight, maneuverable, and delivering professional cut quality in a package groundsmen could actually use comfortably.
By 1966, Allett sold its first production mowers. Word spread quickly among professional groundskeepers. The clean scissor cut, reliable engineering, and thoughtful design earned trust.
Milestone: Wembley Stadium
"When Wembley Stadium's groundskeeper chose the Allett MK1 for the iconic pitch, it validated everything Reg had built. If Allett was good enough for Wembley, it was good enough for anyone."
